Founded in 1960, The College Preparatory School is an independent
coeducational secondary school created for intellectual risk-takers
who want to pursue a purposeful education with kindred peers. Our
mission is to prepare students for productive, ethical lives in
college and beyond by fostering a stimulating education within an
atmosphere of consideration, trust, and mutual responsibility.
College Prep seeks a full time Biology teacher beginning in August
2026. This teacher would teach 4 sections of approximately 16

cellular and molecular Biology. Nearly all of our students choose
to take one or more science electives in 12th grade. Designed to
prepare students for the depth and complexity of college-level
courses, these electives include Anatomy and Physiology, Molecular
Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Astronomy, Marine
Biology, Neuroscience and Mechanics, Electricity, and Magnetism
(among others). At College Prep, Science teachers share a spacious
but cozy office where they regularly collaborate with one another
and meet with students as needed. A convivial and collegial bunch,
in addition to regular impromptu office chats, they meet monthly as
a department, weekly as teaching teams. A qualified candidate will:
Have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
Be prepared to teach a course on an advanced topic in Biology Have
a minimum of three years experience teaching Science to students at
the secondary or college level Have a strong interest in working in
a multicultural community Be eager to embrace spirited intellectual
challenges in a rewarding academic environment Have patience,
flexibility and a good sense of humor A preferred candidate will:
Have a clear vision of the purpose and future of secondary level
science education Have graduate training in Science Have experience
or interest in teaching an applied science course Candidates should
be eager to spend additional time getting to know and help students
outside of the classroom. College Prep teachers also take a share
of other departmental, committee, and general school
responsibilities, mostly during the 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. school
day. Teachers thrive at College Prep when they partake in the
opportunities offered by a rich co-curricular program and a tightly
knit school that embraces equity and inclusiveness, and actively
seeks to strengthen its ties to the greater Oakland community.
Faculty at College Prep are compensated according to a step scale
based on years of experience that ranges from $74,000 for teachers
with no prior relevant experience to $148,500 for teachers with 44
years of prior experience. Benefits include medical and dental
coverage, a retirement plan (to which the school contributes
regardless of employee contribution), and most pleasantly and
collegially, a prepared lunch every day. College Prep is a
community of life-long learners and actively encourages and
supports the professional development of all of its members. As an
equal opportunity employer, College Prep does not discriminate in
its hiring of employees on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual
orientation, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship, marital
or veteran status, age, or disability. We actively seek diversity
